Meet Dr. Gulati
Welcome!
I am a licensed clinical psychologist in Washington State and work with adults to address a wide range of concerns, including emotion dysregulation, trauma, anxiety and depression, and substance use.
I have been providing evidence-based therapy across community, hospital, and private practice settings since 2017. I commonly use behavioral therapies in my practice, including cognitive behavioral therapy, exposure therapy, and mindfulness-based approaches.
I also specialize in providing dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) for adults and couples. My clinical work is informed by decades of empirical research as well as my own scientific pursuits, which have been funded by both the National Institutes of Health and the American Psychological Association.

Approach
My clients often remark that I bring my “full self” to the therapeutic relationship. I show up to our sessions with perspective, honesty, compassion, and humor. I sit with you in moments of both pain and joy as we help you take steps toward a life worth living.
I am an avid user of dialectics, a term that describes how two opposing ideas can hold both truth and value. In our work together, you will often hear me discuss the balance between a core dialectic in therapy: accepting oneself and one’s circumstances and changing behaviors that are not serving you.
Additionally, as a South Asian woman and daughter of immigrants, I recognize the importance of incorporating your background and identity into our work together. I provide care that is culturally competent and affirming to people of all identities. When I am not in the therapy room, you can find me chasing after my daughter, trying my hand at interior design, or snuggling with my cat, Eddie.
I have been providing dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) to clients across Washington State since 2018. DBT is an evidence-based treatment for individuals with intense emotions, impulsive behaviors, suicide and/or self-harm behaviors, and/or interpersonal challenges.
My training in DBT began during graduate school, where I received advanced instruction in comprehensive DBT through The Seattle Clinic. During my final year, I worked closely with Dr. Vibh Forsythe Cox to help launch the Marsha M. Linehan DBT Clinic at the University of Washington.
After graduate school, I delivered comprehensive DBT and DBT-PE (a protocol for PTSD) at the Seattle VA under the supervision of Dr. Melanie Harned, the developer of DBT-PE. I then pursued a postdoctoral fellowship at the DBT Center of Tacoma, where I trained in DBT for couples.
My clinical work is rooted in evidence-based practices and is guided by science. In addition to providing therapy, I regularly publish in scientific journals and present at national conferences. My research focuses on intimate partner violence, alcohol use, and trauma recovery, especially after sexual assault.
